Abstract
To identify a photograph of Adalgisa Umbelina de Almeida Santos, mother of the black geographer and intellectual Milton Santos, in the midst of the complex and voluminous Milton Santos Fund, part of the archival collection of the IEB, may raise many questions. Starting from the search to understand what would be the place of this image in a documentary set marked mainly by the great themes that make up the intellectual project of the geographer, we can bring to the surface from not so visible elements of the trajectories of black intellectuals to questions about where blacks are in Brazilian thought and their representation in institutions such as the IEB itself.
